Put Away The Chainsaw!

In Celtic culture Hawthorn trees are considered a meeting place for the faeries and are thought to hold mystical properties connecting the two worlds of the spiritual and physical. It is extremely bad luck to cut down a Hawthorn tree in Ireland, even the removal of a branch may bring about unwanted events. Treated with respect and left to thrive, the lone Hawthorn tree will bring good fortune to the dwellers of its land. My name is Naomi Concannon and I moved to Ireland with my family seven years ago to live more harmoniously with the natural world. My family and I were lucky enough to find such a tree on the land where we settled, and named our home Mount Hawthorn; befitting of both the mountain location and this special thorny, white blossoming tree. This Substack is a digital window revealing mountains, rivers, woodlands and their human inhabitants through poems and writing inspired by the journey I now find myself on; connecting the spiritual and physical, and re-establishing the idea that God indwells in all creation here on Earth.
