I buy them in fours on a Friday, with waiting children week weary and dirty kneed. Anticipating a treat. Sat on the counter their gift paper wrapped box betrays them. They do not belong with the conveyor belt crisps and long-life tins in this small country store. Their short life has been crafted by an experienced hand. A hand who feeds four hungry children, and places the change in my hand as I buy her creations. Later I will make tea. And we four will sit with crumb-filled plates saying, "Michelle's scones are good".
